Within the framework of its ongoing efforts to ensure the comfort and safety of citizens and residents in the Emirate of Ajman, the Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) confirmed its full readiness to receive the rainy season through intensive preparations geared towards maintaining the smooth traffic during the rains and enhancing the rainwater drainage efficiency. These preparations are part of the MPDA’s commitment to providing a safe and sustainable environment for residents and visitors throughout the rainy season.

Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Omair Al Muhairi, the MPDA’s Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, said that the MPDA has developed a comprehensive strategic plan to receive the rainy season, which includes developing the rainwater management system and improving drainage efficiency, a matter which plays great part in maintaining traffic and ensuring a rapid response to any emergency situations that may arise during heavy rainfall. These efforts come under the directives of the senior leadership, which places life quality and improved urban environment in the Emirate among its strategic priorities, he added.

For his part, Eng. Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, the MPDA’s Director of the Roads and Infrastructure Department, noted that the MPDA is done with all preparations for the rainy season by conducting comprehensive maintenance for all the ran drainage stations and facilities. These preparations come within the MPDA’s keenness to provide a stable and safe environment for all residents and visitors of the Emirate, he said, asserting that the MPDA continues to work under the directives of the senior leadership to ensure the readiness of all systems that contribute to improving life quality in the Emirate in winter.

72 Rainwater Suction Pumps

As part of its preparations, the MPDA distributed 72 rainwater suction pumps to various areas of the Emirate, a basic mechanism for draining accumulated water quickly and effectively, which helps avoid road closures or traffic obstruction during heavy rainfall periods.

27 Rainwater Drainage Stations

The MPDA has completed the maintenance of 27 rainwater drainage stations across the Emirate. They are essential to ensure the drainage of large amounts of water accumulated on the roads. These stations have also been equipped with all the necessary means to deal with any emergency situations and ensure the prevention of any accumulations that may affect the daily lives of residents.

New Drainage Networks Improvement Projects

The MPDA continues its efforts to enhance the infrastructure of rainwater drainage networks in the Emirate by carrying out new projects in the areas of Al Hamidiya, Al Rashidiya, and Al Jurf, with the aim to raise the efficiency of existing drainage networks and ensure water drainage quickly and effectively during the rainy season. The projects also include the establishment of artificial lakes to collect groundwater, which contributes to protecting roads from deterioration and improving their ability to withstand water. These projects focus on highly populated areas and increased traffic to ensure the continued smooth flow of traffic and avoid any impacts that may be caused by water accumulation.

These preparations come within a strict emergency plan under the directives of the MPDA’s senior leadership, to ensure infrastructure sustainability and maintain the safety of everyone in the Emirate.
