The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman carried out comprehensive inspection campaigns on food establishments, in preparation for the celebrations of the Night of Mid-Shaaban “Haq Al Laila”, within the framework of the Department’s keenness to ensure compliance and safety of the food products available to consumers, and application of the best health practices in food handling, especially during the seasons of high demand for food.
The Department indicated that the inspection campaigns include assessing the food establishments’ adherence to the required health standards, and ensuring that all products offered for sale comply with the approved standard specifications. The campaigns are also focused on verifying the safety of storage and public hygiene at these establishments, to ensure that the foods are not exposed to contamination or spoilage.
The Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department conducted comprehensive surveys of local markets, where food samples have been taken; sweets, juices and promotional offers that are extensively consumed during this occasion from various locations, parks, and complexes across the emirate, to ensure their compliance with the specifications approved by the competent authorities.
The Department explained, that the samples are examined at the Central Lab at the Department’s food laboratories, using the state-of-the-art modern technologies in food laboratory testing, where chemical and microbiological tests are conducted according to the relevant specifications. The tests include analyzing the components and ensuring that the products are free from any harmful substances or pollutants that may affect the health of consumers.
The Department confirmed that the initial tests showed, that the required percentage of compliance is achieved, which reflects the adherence of food establishments to safety and quality standards, and enhances the consumers’ confidence in the products available in the markets.
These efforts come within the framework of the Department’s strategy and strategic objectives in promoting public health and protecting the consumer, and emphasizing the importance of continuous monitoring of food establishments.
