His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Crown Prince of Ajman and the Chairman of the Executive Council, inaugurated the Heritage Trail in the Emirate of Ajman. This Trail was developed by the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman with the aim of showcasing the sustainable and vibrant image of the historical Emirate. It also aims to highlight the deep-rooted ancient identity and rich history of its residents. The Trail connects various heritage buildings, starting from the Ajman Museum and the heritage district, all the way to Saleh Market and the heritage buildings in the Nakheel area, extending towards the waterfront.
The inauguration was attended Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Ruler’s Representative for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Chairman of the Tourism Development Department, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, the Chief of the Ruler of Ajman’s Court, and His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Majid Al Nuaimi, the Director General of the Citizens Affairs Office. Additionally, the event was attended by His Excellency Mubarak Al Nakhi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, along with general directors, experts, engineers, people of old Al Furjan, experts, specialists, and senior citizens who all played a significant role in the success of the project.
The ruler of Ajman emphasized the significant focus that the Emirate of Ajman places on its heritage and the preservation of legacies. The ruler also highlighted the importance of connecting present generations to their history and the lives of their ancestors, while instilling values and highlighting the professions, crafts, lifestyles, and traditions of the residential communities. This approach creates an immersive experience that takes visitors on a vibrant journey back in time.
Furthermore, His Highness expressed his pride in the Trail that includes passages and markets, as it represents a high-quality Emirati experience that utilizes sustainable natural solutions.
His Highness expressed that the Trail evokes everlasting memories of old Al Furjan for the people of Ajman, while also offering a visually captivating experience for visitors and tourists. This Trail truly embodies the lifestyle of previous generations and showcases the development in the Ajman Cultural District. By utilizing the emirate’s streets and community spaces, it successfully fosters communication and social cohesion in a harmonious manner.
In addition, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi elaborated to His Highness the Ruler of Ajman and His Highness the Crown Prince that the Department’s ambitious cadres have diligently worked towards implementing a project that spans 1.5 km. This project, falling under the umbrella of Ajman’s Legacy, is dedicated to walking and cycling, and is a testament to their ongoing efforts in developing the old area of Ajman. It aims to preserve the existing assets in accordance with the 2040 Urban Plan, promote sustainable tourism, and encourage sports activities, all in alignment with the strategic goal of achieving interconnection between infrastructure elements and residential communities.
He further mentioned that the Trail comprises of 4 furnaces that symbolize the rich historical and cultural heritage of the emirate. Each section along the Trail represents the essence of the location and the lives of its inhabitants.
For his part, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, the Executive Director of the Department’s Infrastructure Development Sector, stated that the Trail aligns with the guidelines of the Urban Plan 2040. It aims to establish a harmonious connection between courtyards, the urban landscape, open spaces, the waterfront, and historical sites. Moreover, it allows for flexibility in blending the past with the present.
Bin Omair emphasized that the project team diligently collaborated with the inhabitants of the Trail in Al Fareej Al Sharqi, Al Fareej Al Gharbi, and Fareej Mayan right from the outset. They actively engaged with the residents, attentively listening to their cherished recollections and incorporating them into the development of a fresh design concept. This approach not only revitalizes the city’s core but also preserves and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Emirate of Ajman.
