The Department will continue to provide its services during the announced hours and has intensified its inspection campaigns on food establishments in the emirate, including all sales outlets, shopping centers, restaurants, popular kitchens, food factories, sweet shops, and bakeries.

Comprehensive Oversight

The Department emphasized that oversight of food establishments will continue throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan, as part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining consumer health and safety and ensuring the provision of safe and healthy food for everyone in the emirate.

In this regard, Engineer: KHALED MOEEN AL HOSANI, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, affirmed that “Ajman Municipality” is keen on providing full coverage of all food establishments and subjecting them to continuous monitoring and inspection throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan, which witnesses round-the-clock activity and an increase in the pace of commercial activity, stressing the Department’s commitment to preserving consumer health and safety and ensuring the provision of safe and healthy food for everyone in the emirate.

“AL HOSANI” explained, that the Department began its preparations for this year by implementing inspection campaigns on food establishments to ensure their compliance with approved health requirements. The campaigns included restaurants, popular kitchens, food factories, retail outlets, men’s and women’s salons, and cafes. The field teams rely on the smart inspection system and continuous monitoring of central markets, and the competent personnel work on collecting food samples from various markets, establishments, and promotional offers to verify their compliance with approved specifications and regulations.

The Department clarified the work will continue to monitor food supplies arriving through Ajman Port, to ensure a normal flow of food to the emirate, as the month of Ramadan is characterized by an increase in food imports of various food items, which are examined and inspected at the Department’s inspection facilities at Ajman Port, according to best practices, by qualified inspection teams in partnership with the Department’s strategic partners.

Public Health

The “Department” pointed out the prohibition of displaying bakery products, juices, and pastries in front of food establishments during the Holy Month of Ramadan, with the necessity of adhering to health requirements in providing meals and food inside restaurants and food establishments. A number of specialized establishments are approved to supply group Iftar meals according to the approved procedure in the service of approving food establishments for group Iftar in the month of Ramadan, as part of the approved health requirements; which focus on the establishment’s commitment to health requirements for preparing food and using food transport vehicles approved by the Department, while adhering to requirements for food storage at warehouses authorized by the Public Health Department.

On the occasion of the Holy Month, the Public Health Department gave important advice to the consumers, including: avoiding buying or preparing any food from unapproved entities or sources, whether sold by street vendors or on social media, maintaining food temperature away from temperatures suitable for the growth of pathogenic microbes, and not overspending on food quantities to reduce food waste in the Holy Month, as the UAE seeks with all its institutions to enhance food security and benefit from the surplus within approved programs and projects.

The Department advises the public to contact Ajman Contact Center around the clock on this number (80070) to submit their suggestions, inquiries, or file their complaints, stressing that the regulatory work is a shared responsibility between the competent authorities and the public to enhance compliance and improve the quality of life.
