The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) announced that the Air Quality Index in the Emirate of Ajman hit 94.9%, according to the report issued by the MPDA on the statistics of the 2024 first half, as part of the the continuous endeavor to achieve the strategic goal of climate neutrality and enhance air quality.

In this connection, Engineer Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the MPDA’s Public Health and Environment Sector, asserted that the Air Quality Index exceeded the set targets, recording 93.88% in the same period last year, which embodies the MPD’a efforts to continuously develop and enhance the life quality in the Emirate and apply the best local and international practices, especially in the public health and environment sector, under the directives of the wise leadership to protect the health and safety of society.

Eng. Al Hosani said that ensuring air quality is one of the MPDA’s top priorities, given the seriousness of the effects of air pollution on all residents of the Emirate, pointing to the efforts made and projects launched in the vital field, including the network of approved measurement stations consisting of 7 stations distributed across the Emirate. The MPDA also has a future plan to increase the number to 10 stations in years to come, in line with urban development in the Emirate.

The network of stations was launched according to international standards “reference stations” and within the classification approved by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. Monitoring through the stations has contributed to raising the level of air quality, becoming a preferred place to live. All stations have been linked to the Environmental Data Management Program, which is one of the best locally and regionally, and through which notifications are received, reports are prepared, air quality is monitored and any sources of pollution are controlled. All stations are equipped with accurate models for physical measurements such as wind speed and direction, relative humidity and essential gases, Eng. Al Hosani added.

“Work goes around the clock and efforts are intensified for continuous development and application of the best local and international practices, especially in the public health and environment sectors.” Eng. Al Hosani said.
