2,265,285 square meters of total green areas in Ajman

The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) has announced that the green areas in Ajman totaled up 2,265,285 square metres, as per the MPDA’s 2023 report. This comes as part of the continuous efforts to raise the green area in the Emirate, to keep pace with its vision and the State’s directions to enhance sustainability, and to achieve the goals of the Ajman’s 2040 strategic urban plan.

In this vein, His Excellency Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, the MPDA’s Director General, asserted that expanding the scope of land areas to include every single region in the Emirate is a priority that the MPDA has been working to execute based on the competencies that never stop working diligently to prepare integrated and comprehensive plans, noting that Ajman has now become among the ranks of green cities that take agriculture as an approach of work and life and efforts do not stop to ensure life quality and society happiness.

His Excellency stated that the Department believes that the positive results achieved in the agricultural field are the fruit of intensified efforts of the Department, the local community, institutions and entities, as spreading a positive culture among society and the population and encouraging honorable models in the agricultural field in a myriad of initiatives, the most important of which are the Ajman Agriculture Award and the Afforestation Week, has contributed to stimulating all segments of society to provide the best in the vital field, so that Ajman becomes a peaceful emirate full of parks, squares, facilities and natural surfaces everywhere.

His Excellency said that the projects recently implemented, including gardens in residential complexes, have played great part in increasing green areas and provided natural outlets for residents, as we were keen to establish gardens in vital areas where many people live and are frequented by visitors, providing various facilities.

For his part, Ahmad Saif Al Muhairi, Director of the MPDA’s Department of Agriculture and Public Parks, noted that supporting agriculture is in line with the State’s strategic directions designed to achieving comprehensive development and keeps pace with the Emirate’s aspirations for a sustainable environment and a modern structure to build the future of Ajman, adding that Ajman currently includes 38 parks open to everyone.

Al Muhairi spoke about the importance of agriculture and green areas, as the MPDA planted 2,132 trees in 2023, stressing their important role in preserving the environment, improving air quality, and reducing pollution, in addition to improving the city’s visual appearance.

Al Muhairi added that the Department’s ambitious cadres have prepared a forward-looking plan to increase the number of trees in the Emirate by activating cooperation with authorities and institutions to plant trees, to reduce the carbon footprint of the Emirate in the long term, which will be reflected on the quality of air and the quality of wildlife in the Emirate, in addition to reducing pollution factors resulting from car and factory exhausts, reducing noise pollution in some residential areas, and reducing dust resulting from sand storms in the Emirate.
