The Municipality and Planning Department – Ajman (MPDA) received a delegation from the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi, headed by Ussama Bassam Abu Salim, Advisor to the Secretary-General’s Office, and Aisha Matar Al Ketbi, Director of the Strategic Planning Office, as part of the authorities’ keenness to exchange the best experiences and review the qualitative results of positive initiatives, along with the best practices adopted in the Humaid bin Rashid International Sustainability Award.
In this connection, Engineer Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the MPDA’s Public Health and Environment Sector noted that the Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi International Sustainability Award has received the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, to honor and encourage whatever that is related to sustainability, including research and personalities who have made contributions in the vital field, and institutions that establish and apply the principles of sustainability to be an example to be followed by other institutions.
Eng. Al Hosani said that the award succeeded in achieving the desired results over two editions, as it included various topics such as climate change and the environment, the impact of climate change on the environmental status of the Earth’s natural resources, the impact of climate change on global agricultural activities, climate change mitigation and adaptation methods, environmental reclamation in natural areas such as Mesopotamian marshes and green landscapes, and the management of protected areas.
The award is in line with the State’s orientations geared towards promoting and adopting sustainability and making it a work and life approach in various fields, Eng. Al Hosani added.
The visiting delegation was briefed on the MPDA’s experience in the success and development of the Hamdan bin Rashid International Award, the award’s categories, evaluation mechanisms and models, the award’s supporting bodies and scientific committees from inside and outside the State, and a review of how the award reached global status and its success in achieving its goals.
For its part, the delegation appreciated the MPDA’s cooperation and keenness to build bridges of cooperation and joint coordination with all leading bodies and institutions in the sustainability and environmental conservation sector.
