The Department of Municipality and Planning – Ajman has concluded the first phase of the “Bipan Awal Initiative”, in which it completed the maintenance of 75 doors in the “Heritage Trail Area” in the Emirate of Ajman, under the umbrella of Ajman Heritage, which aims to embody the sustainable image of Ajman’s vibrant historical life and demonstrate the ancient identity and deeply rooted past of the Emirate’s people.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omeir Al Muhairi, Executive Director of Infrastructure Development Sector at the Department, emphasized that the Heritage Area houses historical monuments, including the “Doors of the Houses”, which convey stories and tales that have been passed on for generations, noting that the ambitious talents of the Department launched the initiative to maintain the old doors in “Al Masar Area” and repaint them in traditional colors to preserve their distinctive character.
Dr. Engineer Bin Omeir explained that work has continued over the past period to maintain the “Old Al-Biban” through workshops and technical seminars, stating that each door of the Heritage Trail is characterized by unique drawings and engineering plans, with some doors featuring plans in different sentences, as the initiative sought to preserve the existing asset while upgrading it.
Dr. Bin Omeir went on to say that the initiative will include other areas and that an inventory of houses with a historical character in the Emirate’s regions will be conducted in multiple stages, starting with the doors of heritage buildings such as the Ajman Museum, the Heritage District, Salih Market, and heritage buildings in the Nakheel District.
Rich Visual Experience
“The initiative offers visitors, tourists and residents a rich visual experience that represents the lifestyle of ancestors and fathers, and reminisces on original customs and social cohesion,” said Dr. Bin Omeir, adding that the Department aims to connect current generations with their history and the lifestyle of their ancestors and instill values and principles, accompanying the visitors on a journey to the olden times in an environment vibrant with art and originality.
